TransAlpVdA - The Aosta Valley from West to East

from Courmayeur to Gressoney

 img 6222

A tour of about 230 km. with about 9000 meters of positive height gain along a route specially designed to make you cross the northern lateral valleys of Aosta Valley, watching closely the highest and most fascinating mountains of the Alps that exceed by far the 4000 meters high: Mont Blanc (4810 mt), the Grand Combin (4314 m), the Cervino or Matterhorn (4478 mt), Monte Rosa (4634 mt). Majestic mountains located at the border between France and Italy (Aosta Valley) and between Switzerland and Italy (again, Aosta Valley) ... But your eyes will be able to see in the distance also other magnificent peaks such as the Gran Paradiso (4061 m). You will ride over several days in the midst of magnificent forests, we will cross pastures, flowering meadows and typical mountain villages, real treasures of the Western Alps...

It 's impossible to describe everything in a few lines! ..

TVDA map

The Aosta Valley is the ultimate kingdom of the 4000s, as well as of the high mountain MTB.

Who is it for

This tour is open to bikers with a good workout and good technical skills to ride an MTB. The trail leads along unpaved roads and on trails that usually have a solid and smooth  ground, but which may also have rather uneven and irregular parts, with some natural obstacles (eg. rocky steps or roots). The cyclability is around 95%. At some points of the route should be necessary to push or carry the bike.

The stages (approximate information because the route is constantly adapted to the specific requirements of each tour)

  • Day 1: Courmayeur – Saint-Nicolas ; 35 km and 1850 mt D+
  • Day 2: Saint-Nicolas – Gignod ; 34 km and 1150 mt D+
  • Day 3: Gignod – Saint Barthélemy ; 42 Km and 2100 mt D+
  • Day 4: Saint Barthélemy – Chamois ; 35 Km and 1550 mt D+
  • Day 5: Chamois – Ayas ; 32 km and 1200 mt di D+
  • Day 6: Ayas – Gressoney and Pont Saint Martin ; 50 km and 1000 mt D+ (2600 D-)

We arrange the luggage transport between one stage and the other in such a way as to pedal with only a small backpack containing the need for a day. In addition an assistance vehicle can help in case of technical failures or any other problems.
